ABOUT

Children in Conflict

People of all ages are impacted by armed wars and crises, but childrenĀ are disproportionately affected. In 2019, countries with active conflicts were home to over two thirds of all children. Over one in six children, or 426 million, lived fewer than 50 kilometres from the actual battleground. This has untold consequences on the provision of basic needs, education, health, developmentĀ and opportunities that are available for children to grow, as well as survive.

UNCRC

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a document to protect the rights and wellbeing of children globally. The Philippines confirmed the CRC in July 1990 with 191 countries signing it, except for the United States of America and Somalia. Article 38 of the UNCRC states that "You have the right to protection and freedom from war. Children under 15 cannot be forced to go into the army or take part in war." Countries that signed the agreement agreed that their states shall take all feasible measures to ensure that children under 15 years of age have no direct part in hostilities or be recruited into the armed forces.
